Matthew Layton

Academy Operations Manager & Youth Development Coach, WBA

Matthew Layton is the Academy Operations Manager and Youth Development Phase coach at West Bromwich Albion FC. He has worked in professional football since 2006. Previously he created a community sports coaching organisation and is a founder and trustee of a sporting community charity based in the West Midlands. Matthew graduated in 2006 with a BA Honours Degree in Sports Management from University of Birmingham and holds a UEFA A Licence and FA Advanced Youth Licence. During this period he has built a wealth of experience in elite football development specialising within the Youth Development Phase (ages 12 years to 16 years). Along with technical and tactical learning, the Youth Development Phase is the key changing age to comprehend the physical, psychological and social composition of the player. Matthew operates on a daily basis in managing a multi-disciplinary team in creating and implementing elite performance strategies in order to develop an elite performer in an ever evolving environment.
